But I just HAD to scream I'M AMPED! Truly can't wait to the new stuff. Your posts, David, make it seem like we, the fans, are part of something incredibly special. Oh wait--we are. But I hope y'all know what I mean!
And yes, Dan, I'm a-hoping one of the checks mentioned above is the one I sent a couple weeks back. Just in case you got to wonderin'.

Yet another update on this compilation... As we got into putting all this stuff together-
getting eq, compression, levels, etc (Neve 8028, Fairchild, Pultec, for the techs among
you) all together for this set, my first feelings were of simple anxiety. So any different
recording mediums, musicians, engineers, styles of music, states of mind- it just seemed
ungovernable. But tonight, I'm listening to the last assembly of all 28 songs for final
glass on the thing... And I'm so fucking proud of how it holds together. This record is a
slice of life, and how. I thank you, all of you who signed onto this page, and made my mom
proud, and inspired me to put this thing together. Please be patient, all of you who've
sent checks. I know I'm taking a long time. I just want to make these first ones nice. I
swear you won't be disappointed. Thank you, David Baerwald

While we anxiously await the generous gift from DB I have a few DB related tidbits,
comments and questions. 1. The New Book of Rock Lists by Dave Marsh lists DB as 1 of the
100 artists on Greil Marcus' list of the "New Dylan". 2. Does anyone share my
view that A+M Records is great at recognizing talent and then they drop the ball on the
promotion end? In addition to DB, I feel they never adequately got behind Garland Jeffreys
and Paul Kelly and The Messengers. Just one man's opinion. 3. I thought Triage married the
politics of The Clash with the uproarious style of Captain Beefheart? Speaking of Triage,
I can't remember a more satisfying dedication than the middle finger salute to all those
dead and dying cold warriors.4. Now if I may step off my soap box before I fall off, I
have a few questions. Does anyone know what songs DB performed on the King Biscuit Flower
Hour show? Does anyone have a copy and a willingness to sell it? Similarly, anyone want to
sell copies of any DB video? Just wondering. One final question, and this is for Dave's
mom, Mrs. B, is that you with your husband on his website?

Hi everybody. Here's an update on this collection of songs. It's called "A Fine

can't wait to hear it. My first DB record was a vinyl 45rpm of Boomtown, and I've been
hooked ever since. I fortunately got Bedtime Stories and Triage just as soon as they came

intros here were intriguing. The songs always have a strong visual imagery for me, beyond
the musical and lyrical content. Working here at a VA hospital, "Stranger" al

I am a huge fan of David's album BEDTIME STORIES. I bought it when I was about sixteen,
and listened one whole summer. My job was to drive to various gas stations all across the
state of Kentucky. While I was doing this, I always listened and sang along to the tape. I
am 27 now, and I honestly don't know how i connected so deeply to those intimate, complex
and dark vignettes. But i did. I also think it didn't hurt that i could sing in somewhere
near David's key. For some reason, i left that tape in my car in kentucky, and when i
would come home from new york to kentucky, i drove that car, and the tape was always in
the tape deck. So , once a year, usually around xmas, i would be treated to the pleasures
of BEDTIME STORIES. Last year, when i went home for a week in the summer, i found BEDTIME
STORIES melted in the backseat of the car. Since then , I have been trying to find a copy
all around new york, but have had no luck. I didn't follow david's career. I remember the
only reason i bought the tape was i read a glowing review in rolling stone, and i bought

Hi all, The recent e-mail clued me in that things were happening at this site again - and
it enabled me to discover the feedback was more than just an "e-mail the author"
kind of thing. Didn't realise it was a message board - nice one, Dan. Looking forwards to
the new material, and as a London guy, waiting to hear what is to be done with foreign
sales. Quick question for David or the group - I have been into D&D since hearing
Welcome To The Boomtown on pirate station Laser 558 in the mid-80s (they loved that
track!) and when I was discussing them with a work colleague, he claimed that they had
supported some act in Britain around that time. Anyone know if this was the case, and if
so, who was the band? Okay, as contributions go it's pretty weak. So I'll just hello to
all, and send best wishes! Oh, and David, if you're ever in London, I owe you drinks for
all the great hours I've had with your music. And Dan - I owe you a drink too for the
audio samples of David discussing his work - I love hearing what was in a singer's mind at

Here goes: There's a curious piece of art on the "back" of the j-card to the
cassette release of "Triage" (it's the one with the male and female drawings and
other odd markings). Anyone have an idea as to what it might be? And to keep on
rambling... Don't know about the rest of you, but "Born for Love" cuts me to the
bone. Goddamn, what an incredible song. The RealAudio clip found on this site, of David
discussing the song, furthers my respect for his haunting, poetic lyrics. At the risk of
sounding trite, or like the next overly emotional and blatantly fake guest on "The
[insert any trivial tv talk program here] Show," the second verse has always provoked
a lot of thought for me, not to mention helped me put a more thorough p rspective on life.
A great, great song...

Is anyone out there? OK, then I'll get things going. This is to DB. If you're between
record deals and you have demos, live stuff, songs from your shower, how about setting up
a mail order club for the hard core fans. Tom Robinson, formerly of Tom Robinso Band,
Sector 27, solo has been doing this for years. Each year, for about 17 english pounds,
don't ask me for the conversion rate, I get a CD of outtakes, live stuff, shower songs
etc. and he gets a cash infusion. It also entitles me to a free concert (i Belgium of all
places). I don't go as I have a wife and 3 year old, and I'm in New Hampshire, but hey
he's creative. What do you say DB? Message to Dave's mom: What do you think Mrs. B? Was he
this way when it came to homework, cutting the lawn, etc? Any ay, I'm rambling here but I
thought I'd get my two cents in. What do my fellow DB devotees think.

I was lucky enough to be at the Blue Cafe gig in Long Beach, California early this year.
David sang a song I had never heard before, and it was so moving it put tears in my eyes.
He certainly knows how to express a man's heart. It takes strength to do tha . I briefly
spoke to him after the show, and got him to sign the "Bedtime Stories" CD cover.
I asked him about future recordings, but he commented on the politics in the music
business had made him very disenchanted. I really hope he reconsiders. I would love to
play my music for him. Does he need another guitar or keyboard player?!! He inspires my
creativity. Thank you, David.

Today, in looking for David Baerwald music - on one web page I found three Various Artists
complilations containing songs by DB, but before I could check them out - I got cut off.
One was PAVE THE EARTH, one was like de Afreking - Vol. 6 and I can't reca l the 3rd. Can
anyone help? I'm interested in that other one because I think it had some new or
unreleased songs.

Nice to see there are many other David Baerwald fans out there! I saw David Baerwald in
the summer of '93 at First Avenue in Minneapolis. He was there as part of a
"songwriters" acoustic concert series sponsored by a local radio station. This
radio station puts out an annual X-mas release every year to benefit the hungry/homeless.
Baerwald's live performance that night of "China Lake" from Triage was included
on that release. The title of the CD is called "The Cities Sampler '93" from The
Cities '97 radio station in Mpls. Anyone could probably still order it. Anyway about the
concert. He performed with Johnny Clegg, Freedy Johnston, and Lisa Romano. He sang several
songs from Triage and even took a song request "Heroes." I yelled louder than
several of the others so "Heroes" just barely edged out "Swallowed by the
Cracks" - which I wish he would have played also. I really hope he puts out a new CD
soon. He's been a favorite of mine for awhile. His old stuff is still played regularly on
2 radio stations here and he has a

I've really enjoyed your productions, lyrics, and vocals since 1986. I've played each of

that there's not much out there on you. Hope you'll register www.davidbaerwald.com if you

didn't have time to surf that day as I was leaving town early the next morning and my

Hi there, you probably don't know this but I think DB has a pretty big following in
Pakistan.I first started listenting to D&D when I was 16,while I was in England.I also
got one of my cousins to listen to it,he liked it so much that when we returned home e
started a whole following and till this day God knows how many people have been hooked on
to it.During the past 12 years I have been thru alot and heard alot of music but one thing
I know there is nobody like D&D and DB offcourse.Even today your music ounds as if
those 12 years have not passed and your music is extremely soothing.I would love to see
you guys get back together again and release new material or even do one performance for
people like myself who hve been your devout fans for 12 years.I am afraid I don't have
anything new to add but I can tell you that in Pakistan you have a very big

I've posted here a few times under a variety of addresses, but I know that's irrelevant
info. As for the post just below this one (the one from someone identifying herself as
DB's mother), well, let me politely hope that it is indeed from David's mom. No disrepect
intended, but there is a lot of chicanery out here on the Internet... So, I'll just put my
skepticism aside and say, thank you, ma'am. Your sharing is downright generous and I hope
you continue to let us know what's going on in DB's professional life. Chris NYC

This page is dazzling for me to read. I'm David's mom, and can say I was his first fan. I
love his music, too. David recently completed the music for a new film
"Hurlyburly," which will be one of those limited distribution intense
productions directed y Anthony Drazan ("Zebrahead"), starring Sean Penn and
Keven Spacey. Others include Chazz Palminteri, Anna Paquin, Garry Shandling andRobin
Wright Penn. It's an adaptation (by the author) of David Rabe's play by the same name.
Fine Line just bought it. It's David's first film as music supervisor. He helped Suzanna
Hoffs put out a recent album, co-produced it, helped with the music and lyrics, and backed
up some songs, etc. The best news, but don't hold your breath, because it'll not be out
till next y ar some time, he is working on a new album. He's put about half of it on tape,
still needs mixing, and will probably do the second half in a couple of weeks. Then comes
the lengthy part -- manufacture and distribution. He is thinking about selling it on the
Internet. I'll let you guys know more about it as I find out from him. Again, thanks for
being his fans, I think he's very lucky. He has seen your comments, I just discovered this
page myself a few months ago, and one afternoon when David was her , he read them. I
believe your interest was part of the inspiration to make a new album. There was also a
personal need to deal with some pretty strong feelings, music being David's way of doing
that. DB's mom.

what you have come to expect from DB....but the voice is unmistakable. As far as I know,
this is a recording that DB made with a band in LA back when he was 17 or 18. I will try

Since then ive seen everyone from Motley Crue to James Taylor, but David and David is
still the best show ive seen in my life! They finished with Boomtown and Heroes, playing
them off the stage and in the crowd, since it was a small club. They drank beer nd chatted
with people before the show, really down to earth guys. I wish i could tell DB its not

It's great to find somewhere where people have actually heard of DB. His three albums are
sublime. When I was chasing up DB albums in 94 a dealer had a listing for a second Daivd
& David album (can't remember the name) that had been deleted. Any idea if t is
actually existed or was it just a glitch in the catalog? DB seems to suffer from the fact

The public radio music (1800-75-music) source suggested calling A & M records and also
RecordRama Sound Archives (412) 367-7330 for possible copies of Triage, Bedtime Stories or

Welcome, Norway! As for your question, I'll assume Kevin and David were part of the same

there is a scene at a bar...listen closely, and you'll hear Baerwald singing. Via E-mail,
I asked him about it. The song is called "Unsatisfied", and it isn't on the
soundtrack, and he says for legal reasons it will probably never be released. I miss his
work. Maybe soon, something new will come our way.

Amazing. A David Baerwald site. This guy carried David&David and is now carrying
Sheryl Crow on his back. An amazing songwriter, producer and arranger. However, I picked
up on him too late. So, if you could point me somewhere I could buy "Bedtime Sto
ies," I'd appreciate it. Forget music stores. Long since gone.

For info on a recent apearance in Cleveland by David, please check out the following:
http://www.clevescene.com/970911/live0911.htm It is a concert review of Jewel with David
as the opener. I also wanted to say that I exchanged a few e-mails with him about 10
months ago (the address he used has since been abandoned). He mentioned that he hoped to
have a new album out by the end of the summer of '97. Since that deadline has since
passed, I an only hope that he has some new material for us soon.

Hey, I've been a Baerwald fan since 86', its great to see some info on him. I don't get
much up in GrAss Valley, CA (Northern Sierras between Sacramento and Reno). I have been
trying to get Tthe Triage album, but it is out of print and nobody up here know how to get
it. I would appreciate any help. I did see the Crossing Guard like the movie and would
have liked to see a soundtrack relese, I mean come on Baerwald, Robertson, and
Springsteen, how could you lose. I have never seen him live but would love t , I didn't
hear anything about him touring with Jewel. Which tour, current (10-01-97) or past. Well
sorry I don't have any info to add but I thank you for starting a Baerwald page. If you
can help with the Triage album or Northern California concert info -mail, call, or write.
