My dad is a big Harry Chapin fan. I remember when I was a kid he walked into the house one day with with the "Heads & Tales" record. I was probably only about 5 years old. He didn't even take off his coat. He said "Sit down. I want you to hear what a really good songwriter can do."
He went to the stereo and put on "Taxi." We sat there and listened to it. Then he played it again. Then again. He looked at me and said "Son, that's a really good songwriter."
Now years later, whenever I hear the song I think of my dad. It's like a puzzle to me. I've never asked him why he likes the song so much. There's a mystery to it though. I've always thought he shares something with the guy driving the taxi.
