I agree.  Way too much over-prescribing , and I think over-diagnosis of ADD/HD.  Any kid who acts out in school, or doesn't pay attention gets slapped on a pill(s).  I think it's a total cop-out.  That way the teachers are let off the hook, don't deal with the problem, and the kids are all on drugs with their potentially harmful long-term side effects.  I am totally opposed to it, except where a true diagnosis of ADD can be established through rigorous psychologic testing over time.  My eldest son is an example.  He absolutely must have his Ritalin or Adderal, and cannot function too well at any task requiring concentration, without it.  But..he'd been evaluated thoroughly since he was a toddler (for speech delay), and has had proper evaluation and followup since.
