To me, if this wasn't such a serious topic of free expression and artistic freedom, this particular case would be sort of amusing because all involved are now pointing fingers everywhere blaming someone else (Criterion is saying Disney, and Disney is claiming Friedkin and so far Friedkin has not commented, but those that know him seriously doubt he would agree to such censorship).

I originally started typing a lengthy reply but deleted it but this is one of those topics that really, really shocks me over the lack of artistic response across the entire spectrum regarding this type of editing and censorship. 

Oh, how I miss the commentary of Nat Hentoff.  I don't know of many that would stringently defend the First Amendment more than this man, or one that offered such interesting thoughts regarding not only that Amendment but the entire US Constitution.
