Where I think you're missing the point is that the burden of proof was not on the U.S. to prove the WMD existed at all but rather it was on Saddam to prove that he had gotten rid of them. Something he never did. The U.S. had all the authority it needed to invade Iraq with the previous resolutions in hand despite all the attempts by the Democrats to muddy the water for their own pathetic gain.
