All the news channels have just carried CIA Director George Tenet's "Save My Ass"
Speech. The current spin job by the Bush Adminstration is disgusting and people should
not only be fired, but probably indicted. We Americans should be furious over the issue of WMDs in Iraq. Newsweek magazine
has an excellant essay this week about how there was one organization that correctly predicted what
we now know about Iraq's WMDs. This was the UN and its inspectors. And what did our current
adminstration do? It humilated and lambasted the UN and the UN weapons inspections.
The UN had people on the ground in Iraq, had sources and informants and what did our
government do? We listed to Ahmed Chalabi. A scumbag who gladly whispered in the
ears of Cheney, Wolfowitz, Feith, Rumsfeld, Libby, Powell and countless others, telling
them all the crap that they wanted to hear. This piece of garbage had not been in Iraq in
over fifty years and was even convicted in Jordan (tried in absentia) for bank fraud and
our "leaders" were listening to him and his claim of how we would be treated as liberators.
(On a side note, when the US shipped him back to Iraq for a Post-War visit, we had to
guard his sorry ass - even the everyday Iraqis don't like this bum - and I don't make this shit
up - it was televised).
In today's USAToday, 2-5-04, it recaps the highlights (lowlights?) of Powell's speech at
the UN in the quest for war. Almost every, yes every, claim he made, has now been
proven false. The reason I mention this is that there is a huge difference from "We believe"
to "We know." And these people in the White House have said from the start "we know"
and not "we believe." Rumsfeld told us he "KNEW" where the WMDS were. We were
told it was "known" an chemical/biological attack could occur in 45 minutes. We were
told they "knew" and we had in our possession their mobile WMD trucks. It goes on and
on....How can anyone defend what our leaders have done on their own? Because it has
certainly not been done on our behalf - or at the least, not on my behalf.(And before anyone says, "Oh, Saddam was a genocidal maniac and you whiney liberals
should be ashamed for not seeing that the war in Iraq was justified on his human rights
abuses alone, blah, blah, blah...."........Well, you are right, he was a terrible asshole who
should have been taken out a long ago, HOWEVER, the American people should be told
the truth when it comes to war. Lie about Medicare, the environment, the highways, but
when a government asks its men and women to go to war, the truth should be told. It's
that simple. Additionally, our policies should be geared towards a greater promotion of
democracy and human rights instead of protecting our business interests.)
