Artaud..omigod...was always amazed by him, but I haven't thought about him or his work in ages. Thanks for the post...as I age, this memory thing is really becoming terrible.
Waddaya think about Marcel Duchamp? I think he was born before Artaud..not sure. He was too outrageous, but definitely could tell the art critics where to "stick it", and I admire that.
