First, one of the most glaringly omissions of the Iraq debate is that of Saudia Arabia. So far, in my opinion, SA has not been critically examined and needs more examination than that of Iraq as of this time.

Not to be an apologist for Iraq, but really, over the past five to six years, what has Iraq done that garners the attention it is now getting? There is no connection to 9/11, while SA has had documented connection to the 9/11 terrorists and has even sent their families money.

My point is, it seems Iraq has suddenly been turned into the "new" evil empire to replace those of the old. It seems as if there are other countries out there that pose a larger threat to the US than Iraq at this time. Look at what just happened in Pakistan. (A recent election where pro-Taliban politicians were elected into power). Questions are not being asked that need to be asked.

As for percentages, statisics can tell anyone anything and are dependent upon the biases of those who are asking the study question and expressing them. Certainly the American people may have high favorable thoughts of battling Iraq, but when you throw into the equation the use of American ground forces that high rate would surely change. Take for example the use of "smart bombs" during the first Gulf War. Most Americans do not know how few were actually used when compared to conventional bombs. That is now what most Americans probably perceive as how another war with Iraq will be carried out. But throw in potential numbers of American casualties and watch that number quickly drop.

For combat veterans criticizing the sudden need for Iraq's demise, there hasn't been any study done that I know of this time, however, in most of the mainstream publications (Time, Newsweek US News, local and national papers) there has been a steady line of quotes from former generals and former Bush Sr advisors as Snowcroft stressing patience and calm. Even Powell has stressed this. Then the politicians in congress such as both Kerry's, Cleland (sp), Nagle (a republican) and so on. Those without combat experience include people like the VP, President, Trent Lott of Tenn, Armey, and DeLay.

Hope this helps....
