Watched the evening news tonight and there was a piece on about the controversy over the Wedding/Safe House air strike. On one hand it showed video of the site that depicted tents used for weddings, destroyed musical instruments and video of bodies of dead children. On the other hand was a video clip of Gen Myers telling how a handful of firearms, satellite phones and Iraqi currency was found and the site was a "safe house."
Then it is told that it is common for people at Iraqi weddings to fire guns into the air, that satellite phones are common because of connection issues and that the amount of money was not that large.
The sad state that I am nearing is an almost complete level of disbelief at what the current adminstration and military (top brass) tries to tell the American people.
We now suspect the Pentagon's number one man, A. Chalabi of spying for Iran (I have always said this man is a lying piece of shit); the carrying out of this war has been terrible (armor sent back to the US, no properly armed humvees, no body armor from the start, rotting meat from Haliburton, and on and on).
Then we have all the lies from the Bush Adminstration from the start in regards to Iraq.
Now I am sure some of our right wingers will scream, "All you fucking liberals hate America", but that is bullshit and offensive. To me, this country is the greatest on the planet, however, we are not living up to our potential or our professed ideals. We do not walk the same game we talk.
Then we have the abuses and torturing and now reports of 33 death inquires (11 stated as homicides) that all are saying will more than likely grow.
(Let's put the abuse into some rationale to those who want to cry, "Oh, we just stuck a chem light up some Iraqi's ass for crying out loud. They've drug our bodies through the streets." Yes, that last part is true, but for some perspective, let us compare it to Kevin G and his belief about abortion. For the sake of discussion, after all he has written, just imagine what everyone would think if it was learned at one time he drove a girlfriend to an abortion clinic and paid for it. In one way that is how the world sees this abuse scandal but on a much larger scale. We say we are one thing, but act in a different way)
Sure, all governments and politicians lie and fudge all the time, but to me, it is terribly sad to wake up and read every account of this mess with great skepticism in regards to the US perspective on Iraq.
