Here's the suggestion from a friend of mine:
Hey Paul - I run a Roland GR-33 which is the newer version. Same principal though - running through the effects loop should probably work fine. The guitar synth is like any other keyboard synth signal wise. You want the cleanest possible signal with the most headroom and the least distortion possible. You don't want ANY effects clouding the sound (unless of course that is intentional - then you can be like EVH and run a Farfisa organ through a fuzzed out Marshall ;)
