Canadians, man; we could all learn a lesson from them. I go to the Vancouver Folk Music Festival every summer (don't let the name scare you; I've seen Dan Bern, Ani Difranco, Spearhead, Steve Earle, and Tom Robinson there. This year Bruce Cockburn!)

People at this festival are unfailingly pleasant and polite. A friend of mine said, "it's the world just the way you'd like it to be for a weekend". Orderly food and porta-potty lines. They even have a rule about folding chair height: they can't have legs more than three inches long. And please, smoking only on the periphery of the crowd.

I'm sure there are assholes in Canada- probably way up north involving each other in hunting accidents or playing pro hockey- but I haven't met them.

It's good for Americans (and it sounds like Australians as well) to have a role model.
