That was a very good review, Reg.  I agree with most of what you said.  I'm not sure many on the right will turn out for the film.  At the show we attended, the couple to the left of us walked out after the war footage started and I'm guessing that they may have been conservatives.  We felt quite alone in a packed theater.

I thought that had Moore toned his delivery down a bit he may have actually won some of the swing vote over to his side but after watching it I'm not sure he succeeded in that.  I think there's certainly some who will buy into his claims but I think there may be more who will be put off by his approach...maybe that's wishful thinking on my part.  I hear the film is causing some rumblings withing the Republican party and they're not too happy about it.  Did I come in on the tail end of a joke or did I hear correctly that the Republicans are coming out with a similar expose/documentary on Kerry?  Maybe I dreamed the whole thing.

I recall the scene you're referring to, Reg, with the older Iraqi woman who lost several family members to fighting.  It's a difficult scene to watch, seeing this woman who has so little to begin with, reduced even further to losing what is most cherished to her...her family.  What words could one possibly say to try and convey your sorrow to her.  Nobody wants for that to be the result of war but it all too often is.  There's no avoiding it.  The country she lives in will likely never know peace in her lifetime and that is what is so sad.  Her family is gone and who knows if there is any support for her.

The film leaves you with a hopeless feeling about what we're doing in Iraq.  For me to support this war I have to believe that the story doesn't end there.  I remind myself that other countries, including ours, have weathered similar dark days.  My prayers go out every day for the people of Iraq and the soldiers who fight for them.
