I don't think they can lose. This is "Team Clean" in every respect and I don't have any doubt they are about to clean up that big white house. I am amazed at how this has played out. What we have seen in past elections is the best people for the job get beat up and knocked out during primary season. It seems a rare occasion that people this good get this far. Look no further than the McCain vs Bush battle in the 2000 Republican primary. McCain the far better candidate and most certainly better man overall was slaughtered by the Bush/Rove machine in a horrific flood of lies and deception. Funny how that really gave us a preview of what the Bush administration was all about.
Now, I'm so happy this morning because Bush/Rove has made the biggest mistake they could have made to begin their campaign against Kerry/Edwards. They began by falling into the worst trap possible for them. Perhaps a trap set by John McCain himself with advice and consent of others in the Republican party. Who is the most prominent Republican in the country right now? The most trusted? The most talked about? The one whose voice matters most? The most popular? The heart and soul and real leader of the Republican party? Is it George W. Bush? No way! Is it Slick Dick Cheney? Certainly not! It is without question one John McCain. The first ad launched by the Bush campaign to combat the Kerry announcement is called "First Choice" and features who? John McCain. The ad is based on an outright lie, that McCain was Kerry's first choice for VP. The truth is Kerry never offered him the job and never planned to. It's almost hilarious that this is their first response. Bush/Rove is still fighting old rumors of McCain possibly choosing to join the Kerry ticket. That's how shaken they were by these rumors. The man they once destroyed now holds the keys to their campaign and they have participated in making him the most important Republican in the country. Elevated him above even the president of the United States.
This is typical of one of the worst run presidential campaigns ever. Probably the worst. I guess Rove won't be considered a boy wonder any more. These people seem completely lost. What does this say to voters? I think it says that Kerry/Edwards and John McCain are all better men for the job and are all more worthy of your attention than the president himself. I also think it's a hint because I think everything happens for a reason. I think that the feeling in the Republican party is that they have a loser on their hands and a man they need to get rid of in Dubya. Those words will never be uttered in any open way or on the record, particularly in an election year but in a very obvious way McCain has become the dominant force within the party. I think it tells the voters that the Bush campaign is in trouble...big trouble. They need a friend in a big bad way and they are grasping and flaling about for anything they can get. The big problem is McCain is buddies with Kerry and Edwards but he's no friend of Bush. It's no big secret he doesn't like the man. He's doing his duty towing the party line in speaking at an event for the president - this is the footage in the ad - and I'd say the reason for that is because the party is behind him and he is likely their choice to run against Kerry in 2008 if Kerry wins. I believe even the Republicans now see this as inevitable.
So this morning as the Bush campaign released some off the wall talking points that Mitt Romney, our Republican Govna' here in Massachusetts, repeated verbatim today on CNN it seems obvious the Bush campaign is out of gas and out of ideas. They have done nothing and gone nowhere all year long. I see no reason for that to change. Bush remains the most despised politician of our lifetimes, tough to do with Nixon as competition, and Kerry/Edwards would appear to be Rove's worst nightmare come true. I think if there was anything in Edward's closet that could be used that was considered harmful, the Kerry campaign would have chosen Vilsack, who I think was probably the most likely second choice. At this point Kerry has probably seen everything on Edwards including a full array of photos of his anal cavity.
This Kerry/Edwards deal is probably the most stellar presidential ticket the American public has seen in some time and I think they will recognize that fact. I also have to say I think the media has been blowing so much smoke about this election what we've heard is nowhere near the truth. They have been promoting it like the greatest fight since Ali-Fraizer but I think the truth could be closer to Tyson-Spinks. They do after all have reason to want it to be a major brawl but it seems Bushco is just not up to the task.
So I think, barring some major disaster, we'll have a new president in November. The fact is when most of America is unhappy and not pleased with where our country is headed the incumbent pays the price. That's a more honest look at things than any poll numbers will ever be. Bush needs a miracle to win at this point. I know that sounds over confident but he really is not well liked nationwide and people want a new direction. All signs point to Bush getting the boot.
Let's all have a laugh at Bushco's best shot...Kerry made a comment during the primary about Edwards being in diapers when he was coming home from Vietnam...oh my...how harsh...if that's their pathetic best Kerry supporters can start singing "Hail to the Chief."
