Icon Re: How would we go about removing politics from air travel?

Here is a start: Below is a sentence from an update on the airline article:

"Liberals will likely decry the suspicion and interrogation the musicians faced on Flight 327. And the principled Right will regret that that was necessary."

Of course the source is the National Review (a partisan conservative magazine) but it shows what I mean about how politics must be removed from this "war on terror." But here the "liberals" are portrayed in an unflattering way while "conservatives" are portrayed as the heroes. It does us no good to keep going back and forth in this way.

There is a tremendous issue of civil liberties, but there are ways around these issues with common sense solutions. To this day I am so surprised it took 9/11 to get airplanes to install entry proof doors and even more surprised at how hard that took even after 9/11 happened.

Next, maybe airlines need to issue a regulation that only a certain number of passengers can be out of their seats at any one time. Also, with the advent of Sky Marshalls, and not to sound extreme, maybe there should be a policy of absolutely no negotiations with on board terrorists in the case of terrorists taking over a plane.

For carry on luggage maybe airlines could require passengers arrive at an airport earlier to have their luggage examined and then a tamper proof marker placed on the carry on item that shows the item checked is safe. Heck, they could even have the carry on luggage checked and placed in the seat of passengers to ensure that the item has not been altered after being checked.

Another prevention method would be to create a cargo hold that resists an explosive device. Engineers should be able to create a cargo hold that breaks away in the case of explosives or with a top surface of lightweight explosive resistant material.

My point is in putting forth these suggestions, none of them have to do with politics. They are common sense type ideas.

And this is the point we need to get to.
