Let's say a person goes into a military unit with the knowledge that a particular aircraft is obsolete and will not be used in VietNam and addition to that, checks the box that says "will not serve overseas" - now, I would call that a coward. And that is what GWB did.
Frankly, we have all met a frat boy, adrenaline junkie like GWB in our life. This is the typ of person that always had more mouth than his ass could carry and hid behind his wealth, connections and friends to get him by.
And I agree wholeheartedly that we all perceive things differently and according to how our mind works, however, there are some things that are measurable. For example, when a reporter tells the person being interviewed that his wife works for the person is measurable and observable; the demeanor towards one group or another that is obvious is measurable; the content or angle of a report is measurable; the words used, especially loaded ones, are measurable and so on.
It's like watching parents and children. When a parent is watching someone else's children, many times you can observe a difference how that parent reacts with their children and the other person's children. It might be a subtle difference, but it is many times loud and clear. And many times the parent might not detect it on his or her own. It's there, you just have to watch for it and decipher it.
