I just don't believe Kerry and what he says about his Vietnam days. He's already been caught in one lie about his claim that he was in Cambodia during Christmas of '68. And this was something which he said was seared into his memory. Didn't he also go on to say some things about Nixon which couldn't have been true because Nixon wasn't even president during the period for which he made the accusations about him? Yes, I do think the guy is as phony as they come and while I won't say that Bush and his team are not at all involved in the SBV, I don't think the SBV are making this up.
As I'm sitting here thinking I'm trying to imagine myself in the position of one of the SBVets. I did four years in the Navy and met quite a few people. I have some vivid recollections which go back to the mid to late '70s during the time that I was enlisted. I can't imagine a situation where I would lie for some long lost acquaintence and smear the name of someone I served with because I didn't like his politics then or now. I could however, see myself standing up for the truth if this person was making himself out to be someone he wasn't and I felt the truth was important for people to know. There are far too many people who served closely with Kerry standing up against him for me to pass it off as nothing.
