Consider this; it's evident those documents are fakes. It's evident that Dan Rather truely believed them to be real.

I'm not willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he truly believed them to be real. I think one thing is for certain though and that is that his search for damaging evidence from Bush's past is much more motivating for him than finding anything remotely similar in Kerry's past. How many mud flinging stories have you seen him engaged in with respect to Kerry? Also, his defense of the fake documents is a bit troubling in that he at first appeared to not want to even consider the possibility that he was dealing with a hoax. That's hardly the way to objectively approach a story such as that.
