Here's another bit of insight on the character of Mr Rather. I have a cd by a band called OSI (kind of a prog supergroup). The first track contains samples of Dan Rather frantically trying to get information from producers or affiliates during 9/11. The song ends with a sample of Rather saying, "I know this business. I can understand keeping secrets from the viewer but I can't understand keeping secrets from me!"
