I didn't know Kevin G. had the ability to decipher my motives for this thread? Actually, my feelings are genuine and pretty damn personal as my dad has Pulmonary Fibrosis and the flu could kill him (and no, he has not obtained the shot yet). As to Gene's point, I think that's defeatism. Why do we have to throw all of our vaccine eggs in one shot basket when trying to anticipate which strain of the flu is going to hit? Why can't competing strains of a vaccine be cultured or whatever one does in the preparation of such vaccines? I mean, how much can it cost, and frankly, who gives a shit what it costs? And Bush is THE point man on homeland security, isn't he? Perhaps if fetuses were endangered this would be a moot point.
