Tut tut, Big Al. You have hit on a taboo subject here in the land of the red, white, and very little blue. It is not permitted or thought to be "proper" to discuss who or why we are fighting except in terms of "good" and "evil."
Do not stray into the land of gray here. Good, or shall we say "red", Americans never try to think about or understand who we are fighting beyond the idea that they are "evil" and they "hate" us and they "hate" freedom. Just like liberals are "evil" and they "hate" America and they "hate" our president and they "hate" Christian values and they, of course, "hate" unborn babies. Sure these ideas are puddle deep and there are farm animals and 5 year olds that show a greater understanding of the world but we like to keep things simple here in the good ol' US of A.
See to a "red" American our "enemy" is like the shark in the movie Jaws...just a one dimensional evil, hate filled killing machine...nothing more, nothing less. He lurks out there just waiting for his next opportunity to kill. Empty and filled with nothing but rage and hate for freedom and the United States, except for the fear that the Christian cowboy George W. Bush fills them with...he is a vessel of our lord and savior and makes them tremble in their turbans. Red Americans don't believe there could be any other motivation for attacking us except "hate" and "evil" and you know to stop the march of freedom by preventing voting. Hey, we all know that voting is freedom even though most Americans never vote because they think it's a useless exorcise and that all politicians are crooks.
Funny isn't it? Most Americans don't even believe in voting here but when we bring the chance to vote to another country suddenly they are free! In America we are free because we can vote...unless you're gay then you're mostly free unless you want to marry someone you love or if you're a woman who doesn't want to have a baby. Then you're not so free. In America we still like to control our women and prefer to hide our gays. Nevermind that a good portion of our country feel it's cool to beat the shit out of their women and would find it acceptable to drag a gay man through town chained to the back of their gun racked pick-up truck until he was a bloody stump...it's alright though because they go to church on Sunday and ask God to forgive them all their sins...which are usually minor stuff like cheating on their wives or sexing up their own children. They don't need forgiveness for killing a homosexual though because they are only helping God when they do that. Doing God's work ya know.
So for you to attempt to enter into a discussion of who we are actually fighting and killing there and of the reasons they are fighting us is way out of bounds...taboo Al...very, very taboo. See if you humanize them in any way, make them anything more than video game baddies that are just there to get blown away by our "good guys"...well, then you'd be forcing "red" Americans to...ahh...think and understand. They don't much believe that sort of effort is worthwhile unless the people they are thinking about and trying to understand are just like they are...or they are not yet born.
Plus understanding who we are fighting may weaken our "resolve" and we can't have that. It's left to the military commanders and the political leaders to learn about and understand who we are fighting. If we do that as individuals, well, then we become terrorist sympathizers. We become weak and "liberal" pussies. A good (red) American knows to leave that sort of thinking to those whose job it is to understand the enemy and just sit back and let them explain to us what we are supposed to think.
After all, what good could it do any of us to understand what's going on over there? We can't do anything to stop it. Our leaders must know more than we do. We should just trust them to do the right thing and let them explain it all to us...they'd never lie and even if they did they'd only be lying to protect us because we're too weak and foolish to understand their real reasons. Our leaders are good because they believe in God. We know that because they want to put a stop to abortion and prevent same sex couples from getting married...so whatever they decide must be part of God's plan. Sometimes we just can't understand God's plan but George W. Bush can. He has resolve and he knows what God wants. We're all going to be just fine.
Taboo Al...don't go there or those red Americans will lump you in with the French and Germans...we like the British though even if they have those stupid fucking accents and butcher our language...we can laugh at them and understand most of what they say without subtitles.
