...stands for "knowledge". It's an old joke but.....
I'm probably just bitter because the Seahawks have been such a big disappointment-not just this year but since, well... the 1980's. And the once mighty Mariners have lost or traded away all their talent.
It is pretty appalling the way young talent is snookered in, paid unbelievable amounts of money to entertain us and then pretty much tossed out when their usefulness wanes. No education to speak of and no skills besides hitting or throwing a ball. Once they were young and strong and dumb and could have anything they wanted. Now they're washed up with chronic injuries and broke.
Check out the back pages of your local sports section and most days you'll find a tiny blurb about some former professional player involved in domestic violence, drugs, burglery, a car crash involving the death of a close friend or relative or the ever-popular "I was just cleaning my pistol when it went off and killed my cousin".
Sure, I get excited when one of "my" teams is going to the playoffs and I love baseball, but there's always a part of me that feels a little absurd yelling for a bunch of highly paid professional who just arrived from another franchise and who will likely be gone next year. And part of me feels ashamed to be paying into the system that produced the current orgy of stadium building (two new ones in Seattle) and merchandising at the expense of so many other pressing needs.
God damn, I'm such a liberal!
