Working through some new cds.....Green Day's American Idiot is suprisingly good. It's not exactly what I thought it would be (loud rock and roll). It is done really well.Mindy Smith's One Momement More is a very pleasant suprise. Tom Waits Real Gone is, well, Tom Waits. I got into Tom Waits after I heard the Blind Boys of Alamaba (another group of singers I can't recommend enough) do a cover of his Down in the Hole. I believe that Waits is probably an acquired taste but when it is developed, he rarely disappoints.Through CMJ New Music Monthly a while back I learned of the duo called Air. Guess they could sort of be called a pop electronica/instrumental duo with often use of voices. Their stuff is sort of melancholy from time to time.Lastly, in the area of reaquainting with past favorites, I bought a Steve Miller Band best of and an ELO best of. I actually appreciate the wide talent of Steve Miller than before. To many he is simply thought of as Jet Airliner or The Joker, but he actually has broader talent than given credit for.
