Yes, "The Wannabes". Possibly to be retitled. Very light, very sweet, old-fashioned romantic comedy. Two terrific performances by two young stars-- Pell James and Steven Straight. Pell is reminding me of a cross between a kind of goofy Lauren Bacall and a blonder Audrey Hepburn, and Steven is reminding me of a very callow but very gallant Tyrone Power or Errol Flynn. Very fun to watch. Director is my dear friend Meiert Avis. I'm doing a kind of a Nino Rota type of thing--melodic froth with a cherry on it and a bit of Dubonnet. Should come out in the summer. Contains a live duet of a somewhat bowdlerized "Smart In A Stupid Way" between Steven and Ashlee Simpson(!?.), as well as many other songs, including a sort of Rat Pack-ish song called "Why Not Me?" that I wrote with Hans Zimmer and his able assistant Kaz Boyle. Also I'm thumping my way through my acoustic project--re-imagining new and old and cover songs with an acoustic guitar, a vocal, and no overdubs. Any requests?
