i have a standalone cd burner, too. it'll burn the song as well as you can put it out of a stereo. so if you can tweak the equalizer well enough, you may be able to make it sound acceptable.
rather than plugging into a cd burner, you can send the signal through a standard 1/8" input into a computer with editing software (like the man said already). freeware is available online. macintosh computers come with Garageband software, which works well for this purpose. you can do all kinds of stuff to the sound.... compressor, reverb, specific frequency filters, remove particular milliseconds that you don't like, etc...
if you don't want to mess with any software, you can pay somebody to do that simple software stuff for you. one of kravitz's friends will probably make it sound like eminem death metal.
