So I got this strange instruction to sort of recapitulate and extrapolate and extend and reconsider the McCartney song "Blackbird", which I vaguely recalled sort of learning when I was but a wee sprout, and figured, "sure, sounds like fun". So I learned the song today, and was surprised by two things; A), there's a metronome going through the whole recording, dropping out only for the ritard/bird solo bit, then starting up again; and B) that Paul McCartney wrote counterpoint like JS friggin' Bach! Some strange asteroid must have hit those guys. What a wild group of geniuses they were, and what a single gigantic genius they all became together. Amazing. This is why I love my job sometimes. Fantastic .
