Hello folks,

I was on this board a few days ago and noticed this thread. I couldn't believe my eyes! So I went to the band's official website, and discovered that that it is true.

R.I.P. Midnight Oil!

They will allways be in my heart as one of me favs of all time. Yes, most Americans only know the band from their "Diesel and Dust" days. But the band put out Thirteen studio albums, an EP, one live disc, and a greatest hits collection. Plus numerous singles through the years.

Yes, Pat I would have to agree that "Blue Sky Mine" was the band's true, shining moment, but they put out a live disc and five studio albums after that. "Earth, Sun and Moon" and the last record,"Capricornia" are excellent examples of their craft at writing powerfull pop songs with important messages. The band never stopped embracing the underdog role. Their willingness to take on such important social, enviornmental, and political issues will most likely, never be surpassed by another Rock/Pop act, ever! At times they were slammed by critics for being to overtly political and I think it did hurt their album sales in America. But, I will never agree that record sales and true artistic talent have anything to do with each other.

I agree with Peter, that the "2000 Watts.." DVD is a awesome bang for your buck. For fans who loved their louder, edgier side, check out the "Redneck Wonderland" and "Breathe" albums. They rocked!!! and seeing them live was an awesome display of true talent. Last year, the great British band, "James"and it's lead singer,Tim Booth parted ways. They were an amazing band as well! and why they weren't as big as "U2", I will never understand! This year, another great band has parted ways. I shall miss them dearly! Here's hoping that this is not a start to a trend with this music fan.

Cheers,

Kevin (from Arizona)
