"It doesn't really matter what congress thinks...we elected those people to work for us and they just got hung up on something that they REALLY need to move past now."
Marc, that statement displays a rather blatant disregard or ignorance of the workings and design of our government. It is unfortunate that the system of checks and balances that was the foundation of our republic has come under such a violent assault by right wing zealots. It is horribly frightening that there seems to exist, a large number of people in this country who fail to understand this assault. It is just utterly mind-blowing that people who I would regard as reasonably intelligent can dismiss it with "Get over it."
The Congress functions as security against a president and his cabinet abusing their position of power. If you have failed to see or recognize the hideous attempt to consolidate power in the executive office then you my friend are not at all to be considered an informed citizen or, and I would not use this word lightly since it has been so badly abused, patriot.
It's not at all to be taken lightly and it is not at all about partisan bickering. If there is protestation on such a grand scale even the most blindly faithful should at least admit they can smell the smoke. To turn their backs as the republic burns, not only seems a bit foolish, appears quite insane.
There is no doubt, no question, that even the most supportive of this action against Iraq, have been shown there is an utter vacuum of evidence to support our endeavor there. For the Congress to question the actions of a sitting president, most importantly on the issue of waging war with another country- no matter before, after, or during the process- is vital to the survival of our nation. There can be no larger or more relevant debate. If he and his cabinet are found to have overstepped their authority, or manipulated our Congress, and in turn the people of this country, the swift removal of this traitor to our republic becomes the first priority of government.
You sir, would seem quite capable of understanding these simple facts. So, I have to, at the very least, call into question the remark you made above. It says, quite clearly, that you stand as an enemy to the people of the United States, a traitor to our flag, and you function in support of overthrowing the standard of government our founding fathers passed on to us.
I say to you, clarify your position or be recognized as the scoundrel you appear to be, sir. It is my duty as a patriot to call out any such enemy of the state. You stand accused of high treason.
