Syd was out after 'Saucer Full of Secrets'  There were five albums between that & DSOM.  (Atom Heart Mother; UmmaGumma; More; Obscured by Clouds; Meddle & Relics (greatest hits) There was also the Zabriski Point soundtrack, which Antonioni butchered because he didn't like it - They re-released it in it's oruiginal form as a limited edition, but I haven't been able to find it.
The Meddle tour was interesting in that they encored with DSOM in a raw form - very raw - the sound effects and melodies were not settled on yet, and it sounded very much like the studio portions of the Pompe film.  Their staging was pretty raw, too (But they were still State of the art for the time)  Mirrored ball, Fog & Rotating beacons was about it.  They filled the room with fog and let fly with all the Warm sectrum lights during 'Carefull With That Axe, Eugene",  Which was known as 'The Fireball'.  They did have the Quad sound system (again State of the Art for the time) Which was heavily advertised for the show - Back then you were lucky if you got a Stereo sound system.  The performance was great, but it was my third concert, I was 15 and easily impressed, so take it with a grain of salt.  They were always good players, so there wasn't a great leap between Meddle & Dark Side on the skills aspect - it was a complete departure on  style though - listen to Meddle and DSOM in one sitting and it doesn't sound like the same band.
