Pat - good to see you getting into the great sport of disc golf! I throw a forehand flick as well, and can usually pop them 300 feet or so.
Thats what I'm shooting for. Distance on this course is not imparaitive but accuracy is a must. I'm throwing on a good throw maybe 250 ft (I tend to throw a fast fade)
A lot of the Innova discs are great. My fave driver is a KC Eagle. Discraft makes some good stuff too, and I've been hearing a lot of good stuff about Gateway. There's even a foreign manufacturer now as well - in the UK. I really prefer the new "champion" plastics - they are more durable but do take a little more time to get used to.
Amen to those champion platics. I have serveral of the other kind and they ding quickly. I was throwing my Valkarie Champion plastic this morning hard into a bevy of rocks(not a ding). I also have 2 Innova Beasts(Champion) and an Innova Eagle (Not Champion) and about 4 other disks(names escape me)
I don't stick to any one particular brand. The various models all fly so differently that you need to just find ones that you are comfortable with. It's a good idea to have a variety of discs (and even varying weights in models you like) because you never know what the course is going to demand.
Yeah we have Academy Sports here and I've bought most of the brands they offer. I have about 11 disks total. I made the mistake of buying the "Frisbee" brand starter set at Walmart. Those disks were bad, very bad
Are you playing many different courses? I haven't played any of the courses around Austin, though I have played Texas ones in Dallas, Arlington and Houston.
Nope just the one. I should try others but have been told they are not quite as good as this one plus I can't beat it being in my back yard. Cheap sport. All you need is a water bottle and maybe a couple of beers
