no - how would you have felt if 2 Justices had retired during Clinton's presidency?
Surely you jest. Sk (I've even played the switch name game). Clinton's two Supreme Court nominees, Ruth Bader Ginsburg in 1993 and Stephen Breyer in 1994, were confirmed easily.
If Bush appoints 2 hard-line conservatives to replace Rehnquist and O'Conner, the court may look like it is moving right, but is it?
Well, when Clinton replaced Justice White, that moved the Court far to the left. Unless the 2 new judges are more conservative than Rehnquist and White, the court will still be well to the left of where it was when Clinton took office. Further, even if the judges are far right of Thomas, the Court itself, will still be to the left of where it was when Clinton took office. The appointment of 2 conservatives will still leave the Court LEFT of where it was when Clinton was in office, because Kennedy (still the middle of the court) has moved to the left and will be the swing vote to the left.
The key here would to replace Stevens who is 85 and is due already. That would finaly cement a conservative court. Hell we could even wish for Ginsberg or Souter but that aint gonna happen
