I saw C. Rangle on a political talk show and he is pushing for a reinstatment of the draft or something similar. His reasoning is that all Americans should have a concern of sacrifice before them instead of one group. That the privileged should have as much to lose as the poor. The conservative moderator pointed out to Rep Rangle that the military is an all volunteer military and members know what they have signed up. Rangle replied that was malarky because so many military members sign up for a secure job. Which is true. When I was in the service, almost all the people I ever asked why they joined the service replied about the same: "I needed a job." Don't misunderstand me, there are many, many service people who are patriotic, but everyone in this country should be faced with the potential of sacrifice before rooting and ranting for some one else to kick the ass of some third rate dictator. Everyone should have the same opportunity to get their own nose bloodied a bit before being willing to send someone else into a fight. One more little past military story. When I was in Jump school about the time Hussein was starting his first Kuwait move, all the college cadets were pumped up about war and would cheer and go on about kicking some Iraqi ass. This was just go wonderful to hear since all of them were going back home after the three week jump school to their nice sweet frat houses to drink beer and watch all the future action on CNN. No American should have this sort of luxury when other American's have family members and loved ones in harms way.We all need to be in this together.
