I'll just start with what I would consider mainstream rock or pop stuff...
Beck "Sea Change"- I've listened to this more than any other rock record released this year. There's just something about it that strikes me as perfect...well perfect for it's time and place right now anyway.
The Flaming Lips "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots"- I guess what I would say about this record is that I just think it's really cool. "Like way cool dude!" It's a perfect follow-up to "The Soft Bulletin" which many have called another "Pet Sounds". I like Wayne Coyne because it seems the guy will try anything. It should be noted also that Beck & The Flaming Lips toured together this year and The Lips shared the stage with Beck as his backing band when they finshed their set. To me this was the rock tour of the year.
Josh Rouse "Under Cold Blue Stars"- This is just one fine modern rock record. Try it you'll see.
Chuck Prophet "No Other Love"- Rock plus good songwriting equals a very solid record.
Los Lobos "Good Morning Aztlan"- I say these guys are the finest working rock 'n' roll band in the land. This is a fantastic soulful album that deserves your attention.
