After "..Illinoise", go out and buy "Seven Swans". Quite different, more folk based.
Be warn, though, Sufjan is a devout Christian and it shows up big time in a lot of his lyrics and in the colaborations he does with other artists. May turn some of you off.
Also, he's heavily influenced by Steve Reich and Philip Glass, You can hear it in all of his music.
