The "shelf" folded out from the back of his guitar,resting on his knee,allowing him to use the fretboard like a piano during particularly nasty two handed hammer-on solos.
Does that make any sense? Wait a minute me thinks I have a photo of the rig here somewhere. Or maybe it was a one off deal. I'm positive I did see him using the aforementioned set-up.
