Hello all. Just want to say that I have been a lurker on this site for well over a year now and find it just great to have around. I have posted a couple replies’ to on going discussions but nothing earth shattering. On the other hand I have been a fan of Mr. Baerwald since his d+ d-days!
First a little intro. Name is Bob and I live in central Pennsylvania. Soon to be 45 years old, single. Like many of you David’s writing of many of his songs has touched me. He hits it right on the nose and at time’s the heart! Still remember hearing “boomtown” and looking forward to hearing it again and again and again! I went out and bought the 33 of it in which I still have to this day. When he went solo and I heard “All For You” from “Bedtime Stories”, I was hooked! I went out to by the tape and probably played it every day for I don’t know how long. When a song can make a 20 some year old cry, that is something! The passion to that song is just incredible. Then life interrupts.
Move ahead about 16 years and I get married. Engaged after 6 weeks of dating and married a little over a year later. Like many it didn’t last. Just short of 5 years. Life goes on. As I am going through the divorce process I start to think about my life. Where I have been and where I hope to go. One thing that helps me is the music that I have heard over the years. One person is particular David Baerwald and “Bedtime Stories”. I realize though that the tape I had of it was now in the hands of my soon to be ex wife. Since the divorce wasn’t really a nice one I didn’t ask for a few things from her, one thing being my tapes.
Over the years when I did remember about (db) I looked for it at stores but to no luck. Then last year (2005) I am looking through Amazon and think I would look up (db). Lo and behold I look up “Bedtime Stories”. The gods are smiling on me cause there it is! In a mere 4 days later I had it in my hands. This time though a cd. I was in heaven.
But I have to ask myself though. Why did it take me a year later to finally get “boomtown”? I just received that in the mail the other day through Amazon. Absolutely incredible! Though I love “welcome to the boomtown” by far my favorite songs are “swallowed by the cracks” and “ain’t so easy”. David, since I am unable to put into words my thoughts and feelings, it’s as though you were there with me during my life. All I can say is thanks for your incredible writing!
I hope I didn’t bore anybody by this.
