DB recommended this book. It was on my reading before, but I finally got to it. It really is a good book. I have to be honest. When I ordered it, I thought it was non-fiction and put off reading it after learning it was a novel.

Well, I'm glad I put off reading it because it is one of those books you don't find every day. (Oddly, it also is quite relevant for today's world and Middle East politics.)

Now for a few book recommendations:

The Tender Bar by JR Moehringer. This book is a memoir about a man who found male fellowship through a bar. It is really good, funny and heartwarming book.

Blue Blood by Edward Conlon. One of the best books about being a cop that I have ever read. Conlon hits it right on the head. (One of the funniest passages is about the vandilism of new paint jobs, He points out they have graffiti retardent paint, vandalism retardent paint, urine retardent paint, but not retard-retardent paint. God, fellow good minded DBIS'ers please don't get mad at me for that bit. I mean no harm. Sadly, it is funny.)

Hello To All That by John Falk. Falk is a bi-polar war correspondent who coverd the Balkans war. The book is about his battle with mental illness and covering war. A very, very good memoir.

And my last recommendation......Chris Hedges "War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning." Even though because of my profession, I am a big believer of the bonding of people during the worst of times, Hedges explains why that often time that is still a destructive force. A great, great book. A few years ago he gave a university graduation speech and caught a lot of hell for it. A brilliant book.
