I was commenting on talk shows, which I really wouldn't call "news". They are more debate, commentary, and opinion. They can be humorous. You may get a different perspective on occasion. I think if they serve a purpose it would be to get people talking or thinking about the world and current events. What's funny about that though is that I think the people that watch or listen to these shows were already the type that talk or think about what's going on. The people that don't care don't watch or listen. You're not going to draw new veiwers in to watch "Face The Nation" if they would rather be "entertained" or even mow the lawn. You could cover a lot of ground with this topic.
