This album is a departure from his previous albums. His Cajun and zydeco flourishes are non-existant here. Instead he has created and very, very good blues album. Bassist Dave Ranson really stands out on this album. The third track "All About You" is the heaviest song Landreth had recorded. It reminded me of Led Zeppelin's treatment of the blues and (imho) it's the best track on this cd. The rest of the songs (again, all blues based) contain Sonny's distinctive voice and slide guitar. There is a bit of "sameness" to the songs but this is fine since Sonny is very good at what he does. This cd is not quite as good as "South of I-10" but it's a little better than "Levee Town".
I don't think cd this will broaden SL's fan base but if you are a fan this is a must. This is an album that is best served up in a hot, smokey bar with generous amounts of your favorite brew.
Play it loud!
