...the United States will have been at war in Iraq longer than it was at war with Germany in World War II.
Not sure who the energy behind this site is; clicking prompts, I find it vague at best, but the clock thingy is catchy: http://ironingtheflag.com/

What was accomplished by America’s actions during WWII?
Will there be some sense of accomplishment in the history books after IRAQ?
I don’t know.
WWII:
Our country’s very survival was at stake
German & Japanese notions of conquest would likely have eradicated the American ideal with sureness & cold-handed zeal.
During that timeframe, Germany & Japan both practiced genocide with verve & a sense of pride; yeah babee, dey got jiggy wit’it: Institutionalized mass murder, best I’ve surmised, was an accepted act of high-humanity over the unaffiliated and those pursuing the appreciation of the more progressive humanities; please correct me if I’m way wrong...with regards to Japan. I'm pretty sure 'bout Germany.
Best I can surmise, both countries believed they were the be all and save all of human mysticism & enlightenment, honor & wisdom. Both felt they would be doing our people a favor by defeating us....
Both Germany and Japan were industrialized nations, in their own right, with technically advanced military development; …real big notions of real world domination...for the betterment of the planet.
Germany had occupied a monster chunk of Europe and Japan was taking bites and pickings of Asia by storm.
Whether or not American leaders were fallaciously manipulated into going forth with acts of finality’s fiendish forces against Japan, …one way or another our very way of life was under the gun. Our elders were holding the fort, protecting OUR place on this earth…that we gladly & forcibly took from other really groovy folk who had neither a flag nor a system of ownership…& now call them a defeated people…& let them partner up with mobster-types and/or corporate-types (synonymous perhaps) to open casinos on REZ land.
Iraq:
DID NOT attack us. ~~ We are the aggressor/occupier.
They had and still have, …but probably to a lesser degree now, a second rate army built around the last decade’s passé weaponry most available on the bottom-end wholesale market. This so-called army was no match to our decades superior military machine; the state-of-the-art in big dollar retail sky’s the limit killing technology & leadership. Our guys might well have walked right up, as to the buffet line, and helped themselves…&, to some extent, that’s what they did.
Unlike WWII, our very survival was not at stake.
Much like Viet Nam, a decided clusterfck & fiasco, …our forces appear to have gotten themselves bogged-down in what is likely a no win conflict for even more aggressively ambiguous reasons; direction & exit strategy as unclear as Venice Beach ocean water. Other than the heralders of jingoist banners and flags, please, somebody shout fervently out about, “the light at the end of this tunnel?”
Isn’t this an age-old-long-range bidness deal gone bad…in marriage with a Dogma struggle gone greed insane; a land-grab where once there was NEVER peace & tranquility, never has been never will be………..…ever EVER NEVER? Bummer.
…I had a dream (a nightmare, really). In it we were flying over the tops of fine jesso stratus clouds in a red zeppelin, …& below I saw sand & sea and thousands of acres of hydrocarbons, massive desolate ruins & tracts of rebuild-able real estate & re-moldable ruthless regimes, a veritable cornucopia of new slave-trade-cheap-cheap laborers without big heads filled with unrealistic dreams…all for the practical price of several thousand ordinary lives…& the demise of the American economic middle. Then the zeppelin erupted into white flames…, I looked one last time into your perfect Scandinavian-blue eyes…& woke-up listening to When the Levee Breaks in low-fi alarm clock stereo….
