Yeah, I guess that's the part of Christian theology I'll never really understand. It seems like no matter how genuinely good, compassionate, and loving a person is in this world, and no matter how many unselfish good deeds one does, unless they've professed belief in Jesus- been "saved"- they're going to Hell right along with the drug lords, the arms dealers, the torturers, and talk radio hosts.
All of creation just one big game of "Simon Says".
