The thing is, 9/11 was never fully investigated.  In fact, the Administration did all it could to limit any investigation, and succeeded in limiting it to an examination of "intelligence failures."  This presupposes that there were in-fact intelligence failures.  As a result, we will never really know for sure what happened.  We all saw pictures and video, we drew conclusions, and I have to think that some of those conclusions were shaped. 

You start with Michael Moore's video of GWB sitting for 7 minutes in a classroom after the second plane struck.  You add to that the very real debate about what brought down the towers.  Add the third tower which was never struck dropping 7 hours later.  Add apprehension by the Administration to a full and open investigation.  Add knowledge that the Bush team wanted to invade Iraq before the election.  Add the election itself.  Add the spin leading to the invasion of Iraq.  Add today's headline that Bush met with a widow and told her he wasn't going to enter into a philosophical debate about the war (isn't this his job?).  $400 Billion for what, and no possible end until the next Administration, if that.

If I could give the next Presidential candidate a litmus test, I would ask whether the candidate will fully investigate the circumstances of 9/11 and how we got to where we are today?  Sure we need to "move on," but we need to know how to prevent things like this from happening again.  Yesterday, Gary Hart likened the current Admin's use of the army, the courts and religion to how Augustus turned Rome's repulic into an empire.  Is this what it's all about now that the Cold War is over?
