Last week m’ bride & I watched Mr. Smith Goes to Washington again, for the umpteenth time, & last night we trudged through the 1949 Academy Award winning All The King’s Men (it’s a trudger for sure, but so nearly effectively sent an enduring message for the times). Ya know, these two films, the years they were made, the subtle ruckus they caused on the inside; a heady & noteworthy meaningful notion was being passed on to the hoi-polloi, a pungent revelation of a cheesy revenue usurping methodology, man’s truest inhumanity to man, that was mostly dismissed over the years as more entertaining fiction. & yet here we are in the 21st Century…still plodding through the muck of the same ill effects of self-interested, self-sustaining, gluttonous inner-inner-circle politics; civic fleecing…& with no sign of a truly benevolent recourse ahead.
I hope Sean Penn & Anthony Hopkins have lit a fire under a longstanding inspiration
…& can lend a little more sustaining energy to the headiest of all heady notions:
Power corrupts. AND corruption just ain’t cuttin’ it, …ain’t cuttin’ it at all!
