Well the tradition never started out that way. It being a time to light bonfires, eat Barn (or Barm) Brack, and many other things to ward off evil spirits, we couldn't see it heading out of Ireland and returning as a dentist's field day. We never meant it to be what it is. You used to be able to sit at a mirror at mid-night and see the face of your future husband, not any more. The supernatural ain't what it used to be.
