James Brown was an American original- a musical innovator on a scale with Ray Charles, Bill Monroe, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan and any other artist you can name who invented a new voice for expressing old human emotions. In his day he was vocally and physically brilliant: no one could touch him for showmanship.

Tonight, after the Christmas hubbub died down, Marcia and I spent a little time on youtube.com looking at some of the Godfather's performances. Here are a couple as well as Eddie Murphy's great "Hot Tub" parody:
