…They told me they have always dug the little benevolent blessings of Creation, how people have a way of being endearing and self-amending on small occasions. Then they spoke of the seas & nature-in-general and how it was intended to be the measure of balance between miracles & cruelty for humanity to see and heed and buffer their own will to take from the weaker and accumulate. But mostly they wanted me to understand that they are still as yet unmoved by the whole of creation; …as to their one great folly: Greed, Self-Indulgence, Power, Arrogance, Pomposity, Righteous Indignation, all one in the same & God’s most disappointing achievement, according to this divine couple in my delusion. It’s the one thing they have stumbled over since the dawn…& the only thing that has taken its heavy toll on their immortality. Apparently Earth is not the only planet with this disease, although others have found the cure: Something…like…Fletcher’s Memorial Home. Not enough though in the entire universe even to save God. I said, “Why are you telling me, the mumbling-to-himself-guy in the dbis pub?” “We’ve told everybody…,” they smiled a kind of mournful smile, “…but most people just think we’re a hangover or a virus or a storm coming on….”
