Icon Some candidate thoughts...both sides Republican and Democrat

I guess I'll begin with Hillary. I've heard a political consultant evaluate her chances and the outlook for her was grim. Her big issue in the primary is getting through Iowa and New Hampshire and the thought there is she can't win in either state. That puts her in a tough place because as everybody knows the media goes nuts at this point and the focus will shift to the winner, making everybody else play catch up. Hillary won't do well with this and is expected to sink fast. My personal feelings on Hillary are there really are only two groups that find her a "dream" candidate. The media because the Clinton soap opera continues and the Republicans, basically because the Clinton soap opera continues. Here's the real bad news for Hillary and the real good news for the media and Republicans...word is their relationship is pretty cold and Bill has continued to...umm...step out. I hear a lot of people know that and it's a juicy one that will only surface later to help Republicans and the "liberal" media have a big Clinton on-air orgy. Funny thing about the way this "liberal" media works...they will wait for the Republican smear machine to get that out there before they pounce on it like rabid dogs on raw meat. So, basically it's a card to be played later and both the Republicans and some in the "liberal" media are just waiting for the right moment.

Mr. Obama is the new shiny toy on the shelf, that's both good and bad for him. It's good in that he's getting plenty of attention. It's bad in that everybody knows just that. When it gets right down to it, in Iowa and New Hampshire Obama faces the same fate as Hillary. The big word in those two states to the voters that turn out is "electability" and they want to pick a guy they think can win. While a lot of people like Obama not nearly as many think he can win. He makes a good VP choice for somebody though.

John Edwards is the last of the big three on the Democratic side. Well, we all know how Ann Coulter feels about him. I think what happened there is she threw herself at him one night, he told her he'd rather have sex with a flatulent baboon dying of leprosy and she's questioned his sexual orientation ever since. All that aside I think Edwards, given the current contenders, is the guy. A lot of people at the moment are quite unimpressed by him. I think folks remember Dick Cheney taking him apart in the debate and think "the horror"...to quote Brando in Apocalypse Now. The thing is though, if these are the candidates when the time comes, Edwards wins Iowa and New Hampshire and is seen in a whole new light as the front runner and then the talk starts of him choosing Obama as his running mate and well...folks feel they can live with that. It's a weak field for sure but it's weak on the Republican side too.

Let's see we've got John McCain...again...and he's seen as too liberal, didn't show up with his fellow Republicans for Coulters outing of John Edwards and he's a veteran and we all know that means he's got monkeys on the brain...at least Kousin Karl said he did...plus that black love child thing will never play in the South. He also would be 73 when elected making him the oldest newly elected president and they will be bringing that up. Plus he has lost to George W. Bush in the past and let's face it, that's like losing to a chimp. At least that's how my liberal friends in New York describe Kerry's loss to Bush...every time I see them. Bottom line is the Republicans don't want him and never did. When they are looking for other options right away and you won't get the support of your own party...well...walk away John...just walk away.

Rudy...do we even need to discuss him? His marriages...one to a cousin! His living with two gay guys at one point. Rudy likes gays, is on the wrong side of the abortion debate, the wrong side of the stem cell debate and if you thought Bill Clinton got around, watch out for Rudy. He will not be embracing the Christian right crowd the way Kousin Karl did. In fact the Republicans are rethinking that whole idea right now because all of their big candidates are on the wrong side of the bible thumping crowd.

Then we have the guy from Massachusetts, Mitt Romney. Now, I warned everyone here a while back that we'd be seeing Mitt run and that you should avoid him at all costs. The thing you need to know about Mitt is he's all about business and he'll say anything at all to get elected. He goes his happy way and has no issue with bullshitting you, to him it's just business. Right now he's in the business of getting elected president so he'll say whatever you want to hear and could care less about any of it. The odd thing about Mitt is that he sees nothing wrong with this. Basically, if you elect him you're getting a Bush that's a better public speaker. He's also on the wrong side of all those Christian Right issues...Pat and the folks where he's from won't like him no matter how many times he hugs Ann Coulter after she calls John Edwards a "faggot" and Obama...well you know what she'll spit out about Obama at some point...hell, Pat probably already calls Obama that nasty word around the kitchen table and proudly states he won't be going to no rehab for it neither! The things that made Romney a good businessman make him a bad choice for president and how can you like a guy when his word is worthless and he doesn't see that as an issue.

Finally, there's Al Gore and Al is more popular now than he has ever been. Hell, he's not even running and the Republicans are looking for ways to bash him. I think the thing with Al is, he knows he's a hero and well loved until he says he's running...then Al becomes raw meat like all the other presidential candidates. I don't think Al will run no matter how much Leo tells him he loves him.

Basically, we've been destroying the political process in this country over the last 40 years and at the moment it seems there's no going back. You have to be insane, stupid, have an ego the size of the Grand Canyon, or completely mad in your thirst for power to want to run for president in this country. Why would anybody want to put themselves through such a painful and destructive process if they were a normal well adjusted human being? You are attacked day after day, they attack not just you but your family as well and if you have any friends when you start you're probably lucky to have any left when you're done. Yeah, they go after them too and if you lose, like John Kerry did you are then despised not just by the people who voted against you but by the ones that voted for you as well because you let them down. It's all sport now in this country, pick your team and root for them, and just like ESPN, you got CNN putting up all the stats, numbers and Vegas odds. They get you ready for the big game. Everybody wants to back a winner.

When people ask why we have a weak field of candidates they should look in the mirror. Who wants to be a part of this process? If you are someone that would make a good political candidate and you are successful doing something else how you look at running for president and say "Yeah, I want to do that!" is beyond me.

It's like volunteering to get a venereal disease on national television and swearing to never get treatment while cameras follow you around 24/7 and 365.
