You're mainly correct on the 20 year thing. However, there was a brief sober period during the "Balance" album and tour.

I thought that was a great album and tour. VH had a real producer (the late Bruce Fairbairn) who kept on Sammy to actually put work into his lyrics.

But, after that it was all downhill.....

Kickin' Mikey out of the band was downright ridiculous.
