Simple - It is the rank politicization of the justice department.
They were fired because they were either prosocuting republicans or not prosocuting democrats. if you have not been paying attention to the e-mails, they have a thread startyed by Rove that states that they lost the 06 election because of the republican scandels in the news and that the situation must be corrected by 08, and that the justice department must be brought to heel. So much for blind justice.
