Reg,

i just watched the videos you posted and to be honest i don't know enough about what happened to say one way or the other. my initial reaction when this whole thing became news was that it was much to do about nothing...just more from the death by a thousand cuts crowd. was this anything more than what clinton did when he came into office and replaced them all? maybe...maybe not. i didn't watch the gonzales hearings on cspan but am i to gather from your watergate synopsis and the few minutes of video from the gonzales hearings that they're on the same level...archibald cox and the rest? if they are then i hope this becomes very clear and that the corruption is rooted out and exposed. i have no problem with that. or is it that, gonzales, in an attempt to distance himself from the firings actually gave this story some life it didn't deserve? if that's the case i would hope that you would agree that it's just more of the political spin we were talking about in an earlier exchange which we'd rather not let define us.

i was around when nixon was in office and recall very well the hearings although i didn't grasp the depth of what was happening. i was born in 1957. many people have spent a lot of time in jail for doing much less than nixon did. he abused his power and corrupted many in the process. he got off easy by being allowed to resign when others around him who tried to cover for him were sent off to jail. it was a pathetic chapter in our country's history.

do i think the bush administration is as guilty of abusing their power as nixon's administration was? that's a stretch for me at this point.

do you believe the war on terror is a real war or is it all politics so bush can ram a bunch of patriot act legislation through and take away our rights? do you think had clinton done more during his 8 years to capture osama things may have been different today? was clinton leading by doing nothing in the years preceding 9/11 when he had opportunities to stop osama but chose not to because he was more concerned about osama's innocence?

there's a lot of blame to go around for all of our guys. if you can show me that bush is as corrupt as nixon was then i'll lead with you in calling for his resignation and more.
