Yeah, I love the Coens too and this film is supposed to be a real good one from them. I guess a lot of people think they are in a slump but I don't really get that. The Ladykillers was probably their weakest film but it was just a goofy little comedy. I thought it was a fun night out at the movies. Sure if you compare it to the old Peter Sellers-Herbert Lom-Alec Guinness version you might think it sucks but really how many people have seen that? This was a new film for a new audience. I think they must have felt the same way you do about McCarthy's novel and the reports from Cannes say it's a beautiful film to look at and a return to gruesome black comedy for them.http://www.festival-cannes.fr/en/archives/film/4431712
You know it's always been a fantasy for me to make a film and take it to Cannes...that and to be a famous jazz musician. These things sort of replaced my childhood fantasies of being a cowboy, astronaut, pilot, or pirate. Thinking about it the other day I decided that the only fantasies from this list I could actually accomplish would be either to make the film and take it to Cannes and or become a pilot. Looked in to the pilot thing last week and from start to finish to get my private pilot license will cost me about $4000 and take me probably anywhere from 6 months to a year to complete depending upon how I schedule it out. So, I will be a pilot at some point and I have a fictional script about half done that maybe I'll actually shoot.
